Don’t you just love the feeling you get when you’re all cozied up on the couch, a good book is in your hand, and a candle is gently flickering on the table in front of you? The room starts to fill with scents that make you want to breathe in deep and happily sigh away the stresses of life.
If you don’t like this scenario… you’re a monster (just kidding, we still love you).
For me, this is the dream—my literal happy place. And right around the time I started switching over to cleaner personal care products, I watched a video from one of my favorite YouTubers (check her out: Becca Bristow) where she talked about some research she had done on how clean candles actually are.
Stay tuned for a special discount code at the end of the post!
Confession: I am a beauty product junkie.
By that I mean, I LOVE trying new types of makeup, skincare, haircare, anything and everything in beauty that’s popular (or even better, not even “in” yet so I can be that first “cool” person who tried it). Over the years, that’s looked like knowing all of the best products at Sephora, the drugstore, high-end brands, and everywhere in between. If you were curious about it, I’d probably tried it and had it for you to borrow.
Then, this whole clean beauty fad came in. Personally, I thought it was kind of strange, because wasn’t all makeup clean? What did that even mean? I mean, it’s not like I’m eating my lipgloss. Why would we put something on our bodies that was “dirty”? C’mon, if anyone knows that, it’s the brands. I could trust the people who devote their whole lives to making stuff to go on my skin… right?
I’m just sippin’ on an afternoon cup of joe and wishing that you and I were sitting across from each other at some cute coffee shop somewhere catching up. But my Keurig coffee and this post will just have to do this time around.
I have lotssss of plans for this little corner of the internet that are still in the dreaming phase of my mind. More things I want to do, more things I want to say. But since I’ve been a little MIA, I figured we should probably start here:
Y’all, I get SO many questions about what I do to my hair everyday, which still makes me laugh sometimes because for years and years I had zero clue what on earth to do with the crazy beast! My natural hair is very frizzy, kinky curls, and styling it was a constant struggle growing up. The only hair tool I knew how to use what a straightener, so in middle school and early high school, I would fry my hair with that bad boy every. single. day — to the point that one day, I went to class with my natural hair, and friends I had known for years asked me how I was able to make my naturally straight hair so curly. HA. Little did I know.
When I decided almost exactly one year ago to begin living a more green and clean lifestyle, one of my first goals was to get my skincare in order. I knew the chemical combos I was applying to my face every day were just not cutting it for my health or my skin in the long run. So, I began my quest to find skincare products that both worked effectively and that I could be confident would be helpful rather than harmful to my overall wellbeing. I finally feel like I’ve found some products that I love and that work, so I am beyond thrilled to share my current skincare lineup with you!
Fun fact about me: I absolutely thrive off of a hardy set of goals. Whether personal, spiritual, business-oriented, or relational, I always have a list written down somewhere (usually my notes app on my phone) of all of my dreams and plans. So, as you can imagine, I’m all about celebrating a holiday wholly devoted to goal making. Beginning a new year is thrilling to me because it means an automatic reset and a reevaluation of where I’m heading.
But we all know what happens sometime in mid-February: you stop reaching for your resolutions. Doesn’t that seem to happen every single year? Gosh, it’s the worst. And somehow we still choose to repeat the cycle over again the next year and say that this time, it’ll be different.
This year though, it will be different. Why? Because now, you have the right set of tools.
Garrett and I have been engaged for five months now with about one and a half left. Wow, how times flies… and also crawls. Right now especially, it feels more like crawling. It’s difficult sometimes planning this one special day that feels like it will never come, like you’ve finally finished the wait to be engaged just to wait some more. But oh, how sweet it is. Honestly, one of the sweetest seasons of my whole life. And it took me awhile in to realize it, but this isn’t something I really want to rush.
Y’all, I am in the fall spirit like there’s no tomorrow, and every single year, my love for fall always manifests itself in one particular way: LOADS OF COOKING/BAKING. Pumpkin bread. Chili. Lattes. You name it, I make it.
Okay, I’m going to be real honest here: Summer is my least favorite season of all time. Yes, of ALL TIME. I think the fact that Fall is my favorite season and comes right after months of blistering Tennessee heat makes me like Summer even less. But I digress…
Hey, girlfriend! Wow, can you believe we're here? You and me, on this blog, chatting it up. This is the sweetest thing to me. And I have to admit... I wrestled over what the first thing I'd tell you would be. There's a lot of things I want to tell you, a lot of tips and tricks I want to give. But, I realize you're probably here for one of two reasons.
